Information
Technology in Small-Scale Artisanal Fisheries
Trivandrum :Training in computers was given to 35 leaders
of fishworkers by the Kerala State Independent Fishworkers
Federation, in association with Indian Social Institute (ISI)
at the AICUF Centre with the purpose of effectively incorporating
information technology in small scale, artisanal fishing and
commerce.
Shri.C.S.Satish
Babu (INAPP, Technopark),
Shri.V.S.Wilfred (South Indian Federation of Fishermen Societies,
SIFFS) led the training. Shri.G.Peter, Shri. P.P.John, Shri.
K.Narayanan, and Shri. J.Jerome played a lead role in organizing
the training.
The
Kerala State Independent Fishworkers Federation has decided
to set up 4 district level Fisheries Information Centre, with
assistance from SIFFS. These Centres would serve to prioritize
and provide information on fishing and commerce obtained from
various institutions to the fishworkers. Additionally, these
centres would extend the traditional knowledge base of the
fishworkers to the sector of information technology
