Tsunami Victims Held Satyagraha

Trivandrum : A Satyagraha by the tsunami victims of Alappad, led by its democratic committee, was held in front of the Secretariat to raise demands like, conducting an enquiry to look into corruption in the utilisation of tsunami fund and immediate rehabilitation of tsunami victims. The democratic committee alleged that the Government has misled the fishworkers, the public and the Courts and lied to them. The need for a detailed enquiry becomes inevitable in the light of Lok Adalat having asked the Government to report into the corruption and misappropriation of tsunami fund. The Committee said that enquiry and action should be taken against those Revenue officials who spent the lion's share of fund collected for fishworkers in the high-range agricultural areas in the districts of Wayanad, Idukki, Kottayam and Pathanamthitta.

The Satyagraha was inaugurated by Convener of the democratic committee G.Babu. The State President of Kerala Independent Fishworkers' Federation T.Peter, President of Trivandrum district John J.P, S.P.Saju, Ragini, L.Thamara, D.Biju, Vincent Benedict, and Maglin Peter spoke on the occasion. The democratic committee warned of an intense stir if the Chief Minister and other concerned departments continued their apathy towards the tsunami victims.
